In the adjacent city of Seoul, Incheon, South Korea has its own subway system, which is used by at least 200 thousand people every day. The first stage of the Incheon subway was commissioned in 1999. Passengers received a line that crossed the city from north to south and had a length of 23 kilometers. Passengers could use 21 stations to transfer to other modes of transport and enter or exit. The entire first line, with the exception of a small section, was built underground. Today, Incheon's first subway route is 30 kilometers long and has 29 stations.
The second subway line is under active construction. So far, 29 kilometers of tracks and 27 stations for the entry and exit of passengers have been commissioned. For convenient transportation between Incheon and Seoul, the subways of these two cities are integrated into a single transport system.
Incheon subway tickets
Incheon subway fares are paid using smart cards, which have replaced regular paper tickets. They should be purchased from vending machines at the entrance, the menu of which also includes an English version. The entrances to Incheon subway station are marked in the city by tall rectangular steles, illuminated in the dark.
