Description and proportions of the flag of Trinidad and Tobago

The Trinidad and Tobago flag has a classic rectangular shape for most countries in the world. The sides of the panel are related to each other according to the ratio of 3: 5. It is allowed to be used for any purpose by government agencies and the land forces of the state.

The main field of the cloth is bright red. It is diagonally divided into two triangles of equal area. The dividing line looks like a wide black stripe edged with two thin white stripes. The black field runs from the top corner of the flagpole to the bottom corner of the free edge of the Trinidad and Tobago flag.

The colors of the cloth are chosen in accordance with the ideas of the inhabitants of the country and national traditions. The red banner symbolizes the fertile lands of the island state, the courage and vitality of its inhabitants. The white stripes are the waters of the Atlantic in which the islands drift. These are peaceful waters for the inhabitants of Trinidad and Tobago, and therefore their color is white. The black stripe is a close connection of all the inhabitants of the country, who are united by white fields with pure thoughts and equal opportunities. The combination of three colors gives rise to the unity of elements and times, according to the citizens of the islands of Trinidad and Tobago.

The civil flag of Trinidad and Tobago is exactly the same cloth, which has only slightly different proportions: its length is twice its width. The same flag is also used for the needs of the private and commercial fleet.

The country's navy has a white flag as a flag, divided into four parts by a red St. George cross. in its upper left quarter is the national flag of Trinidad and Tobago.

History of the flag of Trinidad and Tobago

The former British colony of Trinidad and Tobago was represented on the international scene with a flag typical of the overseas possessions of a European state. It was a dark blue cloth, in the upper quarter of which the British flag was located at the pole. The right side of the flag contained the image of the coat of arms of the colonial possessions of Trinidad and Tobago in the form of a circular disk. On it one could see the sea, mountains and blue sky.

In October 1958, the country gained independence from Great Britain, and almost four years later - the new flag of Trinidad and Tobago, under which it still operates today.
