Description of the attraction
In December 2011, a new high-tech wonder-museum in Lima opened its doors to visitors. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in Lima is the country's first fully virtual museum. Its technical weapons include the use of films, 2D, 3D and even 4D, as well as the use of holograms and other technical subtleties that will guide the visitor through 10,000 years of Lima's history and even show the future: what the capital of Peru will be like in 2050.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is housed in a building built in 1925 to house the first mining exhibition and later housed the headquarters of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. In 2005, it was decided to add this building to the list of historical monuments in Peru.
The beautiful building with marble staircases and a late 1920s-style interior is home to a modern museum showing the history of Lima. The museum has over 20 rooms. Already at the entrance to the museum, visitors are greeted by a beautiful video about the National Library. Ricardo Palma. Further, holograms accompany tourists along the way through the entire history of Lima, divided into the pre-Hispanic era, the colonial period, the period of independence, the period of the XX and XXI centuries, highlighting all the important episodes of the life of the city. In the "Limeñan Soul" room you will learn about typical city life, music, architecture, religion, scholars and literary figures.
The Metropolitan Museum can only be visited with a guided tour. Groups of 20 to 30 people gather at the entrance. So be prepared to wait for a few minutes until enough people are there. The tour lasts about 1.5 hours, but in the near future it is planned to extend it to 3 hours, as soon as all the "exhibits" are placed and included in the excursion. Unfortunately, all films are now only dubbed in Spanish! Tours in English are under construction.
