Description of the attraction
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manila specializes in classical and contemporary visual arts. The museum was founded in 1976 to host exhibitions of foreign artists, and since 1986 it has also been home to the works of Filipino artists. In the exhibition halls of the Metrooplitan Museum, over the years, one could see the works of Picasso, Clay, Walter Gropius and other artists. Every year the museum organizes 4 major exhibitions of well-known local and foreign artists.
The museum consists of 4 main galleries and several small exhibition spaces. In the gallery on the ground floor of the building, you can see gold items from the 8th to 13th centuries (jewelry, ritual figurines, etc.) and a collection of pre-Columbian ceramics. The "Window to Heaven" exhibition showcases amazing Russian icons, while the "Aura: Religious Art" exhibition features religious images hand-made by Filipino craftsmen. Of particular interest is the exhibition, consisting of the works of the Filipino artist Felix Hidalgo, who worked in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Collections of contemporary art include objects of architecture, design, urban planning, etc. In addition, the museum hosts traveling exhibitions from all over the country and from abroad, organizes educational projects and charitable events.
The building also houses a Metshop, where you can buy museum-branded souvenirs, a library and a conference room.
