Description of the attraction

The Vankovichi House is an estate of an old noble family, built in the classicism style at the end of the 17th and beginning of the 19th century. The estate is located in the historical center of Minsk on Internatsionalnaya Street. The house is associated with the life and work of the Belarusian portrait painter Valentiy Vankovich.

Valentiy-Wilhelm Vankovich was born on May 12, 1800. During his short life (the artist lived only 42 years), he managed to become famous not only in the Russian Empire, but also abroad. His works were exhibited in the best European salons, including in Paris.

The Vankovichi estate was badly destroyed during the years of Soviet power, but, with the beginning of a new time in the history of Belarus and the revival of interest in national culture, it was reconstructed. The manor house was reopened for the 200th anniversary of the birth of Valentiy Vankovich in 2000.

During the reconstruction, the fence with a gate was completely restored, separating the estate from the city streets and the manager's wing, from which only the foundation remained. In this wing, chamber concerts, music competitions, and other events of the cultural life of Minsk are now held.

In other halls you can admire the interior and the way of life of the old gentry manor - how the Belarusian nobles lived in the 19th century, what was the decoration of their rooms. The museum also contains interesting historical documents related to the life and work of Valentiy Vankovich.
