Description of the attraction
There are a lot of parks with tropical plants in the Dominican Republic. However, there is a place where, on an area of 2.5 km square. almost all representatives of the local flora have been collected. This is the National Botanical Garden, founded in 1976 by botanist and enthusiast R. M. Puejo.
In order not to miss the most interesting corners of the vast park, it is recommended to examine it from the carriage of a special train. Acquaintance with the Botanical Garden begins at one of its attractions - a large flower clock with a diameter of 20 meters. The park consists of several thematic zones, which certainly makes it easier to explore. One of the most interesting sectors of the garden is the water sector. On the territory of the botanical park there are 109 reservoirs, each of which is covered with different aquatic plants. There are about 40 types of them. Romantic natures will most of all enjoy a visit to the orchid garden, where 300 species of these luxurious flowers are presented. In general, about half of the area of the botanical garden is occupied by jungle, which only at first glance seems impassable. For the guests of the park, special paths have been laid that lead to the very heart of the rainforest.
The pride of the National Botanical Garden of the Dominican Republic is the amazing Japanese sector, where you can find a rock garden, low-growing trees and oriental-style gazebos.
You can finish your walk in the local Botanical Garden at the Natural History Museum dedicated to the fauna of the Dominican Republic.
