Description of the attraction
Kufstein is home to one of the most interesting specialized museums in Austria. It is dedicated to sewing machines, which, of course, is of interest to thousands of tourists who are fond of sewing.
The location of this museum was not chosen by chance: it was in Kufstein in 1786 that the famous inventor of sewing machines, Joseph Georg Madersperger, was born. His home was on Kinkstrasse. Interestingly, the inventor who worked as a tailor himself did not realize the full value of his discovery. At first, in 1814, he came up with a special needle with an eyelet located at the bottom, which could be used when sewing. Then he began to develop his idea. Josef Madersperger invested all his savings in the manufacture and improvement of the sewing machine. No one could appreciate the importance of his invention and did not want to buy his apparatus. In addition, a number of improvements did not benefit this wonderful device. An ordinary tailor did not have the money to build a machine manufacturing plant. Therefore, he gave the first sewing machine to the Polytechnic Institute in Vienna. This invention is highly appreciated these days.
In the homeland of Madersperger, grateful residents of Kuftain have opened a museum, part of the exhibition of which is an audiovisual show about the life and work of the local inventor. In addition, there is a large selection of 19th century sewing machines. Most of them are decorated with gilded ornaments and the names of the companies that produced them. The most popular Austrian sewing machine manufacturer was Pfaff.
