Description of the attraction

The Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos in Kamenets-Podolsk is located on Russian farms along Ivan Franko Street. It received its present name "Church of the Intercession on Russian Farms" at the end of the 18th century. This is the only church in the city that functioned even during the Soviet era.

For the first time it was mentioned in the document “The surrender of the castles of Kamenets, Skala, Smotrich and Letichev to the new elder” in 1494. The princes Koriatovichi (15th century) are considered to be its creators. There is a legend among the people that before that the Resurrection Monastery of the Orthodox faith was located here, and after the closure of the monastery, in 1452, a parish church was equipped.

The wooden church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos existed until 1861. The beginning of the construction of a new stone church dates back to 1845. But then its location was changed, it was located next to the New City. Her consecration was carried out on October 20, 1861.

In the period from 1807 to 1835, services in the church were conducted by the Karvasar priests, since the Russian estates were one parish together with the Karvasars. And in 1835 a separate priest was appointed to the church, whose name was Emelyan Kapatsinsky. And by the end of the 19th century, more than 700 parishioners attended the church.

When the St. Nicholas Church was closed, its shrine was moved to storage in the Intercession Church. And on July 19, 1991, under the auspices of the Kamenets-Podolsk and Khmelnitsky Bishop, His Eminence Nifont, the icon of St. Nicholas was solemnly transferred to the St. Nicholas Church, to its original place.

Now in the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos there is also an icon of St. Nicholas of the 17th century, as well as an icon of John the Baptist. It is important that the latter was pacified in 2007.
