Description of the attraction

In the heart of Old Montreal, just a few minutes' walk from the Old Port at the corner of Rue de Bonsecourt and Saint-Paul, there is one of the most interesting and oldest buildings in the city - Pierre du Calvet House. It is also one of the main architectural and historical landmarks of Montreal.

The house of Pierre du Calvet was built in the first half of the 18th century and is a fine example of urban architecture in New France. This is an old mansion with massive stone walls that can withstand the destructive force of fire (a real scourge for the Montreal people), huge chimneys and a rather steep roof. The house got its name in honor of its famous inhabitant - a wealthy businessman and famous politician Pierre du Calvet.

Today, Pierre du Calvet House is known as the Chateau Hotel and is perhaps one of the best places in Montreal for a romantic getaway, business meeting, wedding and other special events. The hotel offers luxurious rooms with a special touch of heavy beamed ceilings and wood paneling, fireplaces, antique furniture, four-poster beds, all combined with the modern comforts of a 4-star hotel. The House of Pierre du Calvet is famous for its exquisite restaurant, where you can enjoy excellent cuisine and appreciate the excellent wine list. There is also a library with a comfortable seating area in front of a large fireplace - an ideal place for reading or business meetings (small groups up to 35 people), as well as a small cozy Beaupre salon for 4-12 people. Adjacent to the reception is a Victorian conservatory with a lounge area where you can relax and sip a cocktail while watching the parrots. In summer, the outdoor terrace located in the courtyard is especially popular.
