Description of the attraction
Rock Zerkalo, located four kilometers from the resort of Goryachy Klyuch, is one of the most attractive natural sites, which is included in almost all tourist routes of the local region. This rock in the valley of Maltsev Brook is made of unusual yellow quartz-glauconite sandstone formed over tens of millions of years. Even now, on the cut of the rock, imprints of prehistoric mollusks that lived in the ancient ocean of Tethys are clearly visible. Rock carvings have a bizarre shape, which very much resemble the interlacing of lines on a human palm. If you look closely at these patterns, you can see a meaningful image. Sometimes they say that this is a prediction of the future, and if you strongly believe in it, then it must definitely come true. Therefore, many tourists, before fortune-telling, throw a trifle at the foot of the cliff.
The local population claims that not long ago the Maltsev brook was full of water and it was possible to fish there. Now, the brook shows its full power only during the melting of snow or during the period of prolonged rains.
Due to its 32-meter height and very smooth surface, the Mirror Rock attracts climbers, rock climbers, cavers and simply mountain tourists. There is a great campsite nearby and you can always find drinking water. Not far from the Mirror Rock is the Ferrous Spring, a very popular source of ferrous mineral water, consecrated in 1995.
