Description of the attraction

Nicholas Church in Zhikhor was erected in 1747 at the expense and with the support of Colonel A. P. Shcherbinin. Alas, a modest wooden structure with a bell tower has not survived to this day due to a fire.

The construction of the Nicholas Church with a single throne began in 1890. A parish school was also opened here. The beginning of the last century was very favorable for the parish of the church, as evidenced by the reference book of the Kharkov diocese in 1904. It contains information that the temple has a large economy, so the restoration of the church was fully ensured.

After the Bolsheviks came to power, the church was closed more than once, and then revived again. The Soviet era brought ruin to the church. Officially, the robbery was explained by the confiscation of valuables in favor of the starving. Little is left of the magnificent stone building with crosses, bells and a belfry - a stone box that looks more like a "civil" building. During the period of perestroika, the first attempts were made to resurrect the temple, shortly before that the building was returned to the religious community. But all efforts have sunk into oblivion.

There was no help and consent from the Chernozavodsk regional executive committee. In the end, the appointment of Archpriest Roman Vodyanoy as rector in 1994 moved the matter off the ground. The tireless labors of Father Roman made it possible to begin the revival of the church from the ruins. For a decade, until his death, he fought for the right of St. Nicholas Church to exist. And so, today, on the outskirts of the city, decorated with crosses rising into the sky, the temple suddenly appears before the eyes, bewitching everyone with its special silhouette and original configuration of poppies. Striving upward, it attracts attention with the uniqueness of architecture and enchants with golden shine and bright azure domes.
