Description of the attraction
St. Nicholas Church is a real pearl of the Nevyansk land. The temple is located in a beautiful place in the middle of the village of Byngi, which is about seven kilometers from the city of Nevyansk. In the XVII century. one of the largest Old Believer centers was founded here.
The construction of the temple began in May 1789. The stone three-altar temple was laid by the Ural miners Yakovlevs, whose efforts over the course of eight years completed the construction of this majestic shrine. The solemn ceremony of consecration of the church in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker took place in January 1797.
The temple is made in the Byzantine style with a cross-shaped base, five domes and a bell tower. The temple is distinguished by beautiful architecture with a huge number of cornices and moldings above the windows, with a clock on the bell tower and huge columns. The total height of the main dome with a bell tower reaches 57 m. The chapters are decorated with gilded crosses. St. Nicholas Church is visible from almost all sides of the village and is its main attraction.
With its grace, St. Nicholas Church is distinguished by its strength. Cast-iron chairs weighing about five tons were laid in its foundation at the corners, and the walls were tied with special iron ties.
In 1819, the northern chapel was consecrated in the name of the Dormition of the Mother of God. The temple was divided into two parts. The new side-chapel was made warm and was separated from the main one by a glass frame. The main temple was cold. After a while, the temple was hung, so in April 1857 its renovation began. During the reconstruction, the roof of the church was repaired and painted, the glass partition separating the side-altars was removed, instead of wooden porches, stone ones with parapets appeared. In January 1858, the Assumption side-altar was rebuilt and consecrated, and in January 1863 - the southern side-altar in honor of the Meeting of the Lord.
St. Nicholas Church is one of the few temples of the 18th century that survived in the Urals. He was able to preserve his original appearance and the soulful atmosphere of a rural church. Throughout its history, the temple has never been closed. From 1939 to 1944, the service was not held there due to the absence of a priest.
