Description of the attraction
On Sokolovaya Gora, in Victory Park on November 3, 2009. the memorial "Compatriots who died in local wars" was solemnly opened. The authors of the composition were: sculptor Alexander Sadovsky and architect A. V. Zaitsev. The central element of the composition is a tilted figure of a warrior with a tulip in his hand and the inscription "Who passed the fire of war". The warrior is surrounded by a monumental structure engraved with the names of 318 fellow countrymen who have died in military conflicts since 1945. At the base of the monument are capsules with earth from all regions of the province from the places of military burials. The initiator of the installation of the monument was the All-Russian organization of veterans "Combat Brotherhood". Public organizations of Saratov and the region took part in raising funds for the creation of a memorial to those killed during the execution.
The monument embodying the courage and valor of the Saratov warriors in the "hot spots" contains more than three hundred names and each of them has its own life and tragic history: Afghanistan, the North Caucasus, the countries of Africa, Central and Central Asia, the near abroad and many other places where conflicts were not resolved peacefully. Veterans, public figures, relatives and friends of the victims who come to the Victory Park lay flowers in honor of the memory of the soldiers and officers who gave their lives for the good of the Motherland. The memorial to "Compatriots who died in local wars" in Victory Park is a memory of more than five thousand servicemen of Saratov and the region who died, and of those who survived, fulfilling their military duty in peacekeeping actions in more than 30 local wars.
