Description of the attraction
Old Bar is an area of the city of Bar, which is surrounded by ancient fortress walls and resembles a city within a city. It is in the Old Bar that tourists can discover all the main local attractions. At any tourist office in the city, travelers will be given a free map showing the tourist route that includes visits to all the significant buildings of the Old Bar. One of these monuments is the small church of St. Jovan-Vladimir. This temple should not be confused with the large Orthodox cathedral in Bar, which was built in the new millennium and consecrated in the name of the same saint.
The Church of St. Jovan, like the neighboring sacral buildings, was erected in time immemorial in a small shopping area right in the center of the Old Bar. The church is said to have been built in 1247. At that time, Saint Peter was considered her patron. Surprisingly, the temple was able to survive the Turkish domination, and numerous earthquakes, and two world wars. The church acquired its present appearance in 1927.
