Description of the attraction

The Museum of Childhood is located in the heart of Edinburgh, on the Royal Mile and tells about everything related to games and toys. This museum is visited with pleasure by both children and adults.

One day, Edinburgh City Councilor Patrick Murray wondered: why is there not a single museum in the city dedicated exclusively to children? He proposed to create such a museum, and in 1955 his idea came true. It turned out that there was no such museum dedicated to the history of childhood, not only in Edinburgh, but in the whole world, and the Museum of Childhood became the first such museum. Five floors of the museum are devoted not only to games and toys or children's clothing, but also to quite serious issues of children's health care, upbringing and education. There are themed exhibits where you can listen to a 1930s school class chant the multiplication table in chorus or take part in a 1950s street game. Visitors can learn how it was customary to dress, teach and raise children in different times and eras.

The museum exhibits toys from all over the world: dolls, teddy bears, railways, tricycles … Children enjoy looking at toys or playing games, and for adults it is a great opportunity to remember their own childhood and smile nostalgically.
