Description of the attraction

In December 1937, the boat was laid down in Leningrad, and already in 1939, on August 16, it was launched. Enlisted in the Northern Fleet on September 17, 1941. In the first military campaign, she set up an obstacle in the Best-Sunn Strait, consisting of 11 mines, and on the morning of November 11, 1941, a Norwegian transport called "Bessheim" blew up and went to the bottom in this place.

This ship has a glorious combat history. In the area of Ingay Island in July, more precisely on the 5th, 1942, "K-21" discovered a squadron of German ships and attacked the enemy. As a result of a four-torpedo salvo, the enemy battleship Tirpitz was seriously damaged and was forced to return to base in Norway.

Throughout the war, the K-21 sunk 17 German transports and warships, completed twelve military campaigns and carried out six mine laying.

In Severomorsk, probably, you will not meet a person who does not know the main attraction, which symbolizes the history and purpose of the city of naval sailors. For almost three decades, the legendary boat, the Red Banner K-21, which is a branch of the Northern Fleet Museum, has been in perpetual post. The submarine is located on Courage Square. 70 years ago, the naval flag was solemnly raised on the boat and since then, the submarine has been keeping watch in the Arctic.

Nowadays, the compartments of the submarine house expositions that describe the actions of the Second World War and the formation of submarine forces in the North in the post-war period. Personal belongings, photographs, awards of submariners and submitted documents of that time, better than any historian, will tell about the heroism of people who once led this boat into battle.

However, the main thing is the submarine itself. The combat situation is preserved in four compartments - here you can literally touch the history: batten down the rack, look into the periscope - feel like a true submariner.

During the war years, "K-21" under the command of Nikolai Lunin, Arkady Zhukov and Zaimar Arvanov made 12 military campaigns. The crew of this submarine won 17 victories.

In 1942, the K-21 crew was awarded the Order of the Red Banner for their exemplary combat missions, for their heroism and courage. In general, during the war, submariners of the submarine were awarded 102 military orders and 35 medals.

In the fifties of the last century, the ship acted as a training simulator for sailors practicing damage control skills. In this capacity, it existed until the moment when the military council of the Northern Fleet signed a decree - to turn the submarine into a memorial complex, perpetuating the memory of the valor and military deeds of submariners in the difficult war years. "K-21", affectionately nicknamed by the sailors "Katyusha", found a permanent anchorage next to the berths of other warships in 1983, in the year of the celebration of the half-century anniversary of the Northern Fleet.

On the day of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the submarine, representatives of the administration of the Murmansk region, students of cadet classes, and military personnel came to pay tribute to the feat of the submariners. A rally took place. The sailors and cadets marched along the Courage Square in a solemn march, symbolizing the continuity of generations. Wreaths and flowers were laid on the hull of the legendary boat. The holiday passed, and the submarine remained on the historical watch.

In the period from 2008 to 2009, the museum was renovated, and the exposition was also updated. The museum's exhibition is constantly updated, providing visitors with the opportunity, having visited the building, to get acquainted with the traditions of the ship and the Northern Fleet. Nowadays, the submarine performs an equally important mission - the military-patriotic education of the younger generation.

Only the truth should be told about the Patriotic War. I read your annotation of the K-21 submarine combat path. After the end of the war, our former allies and adversaries at sea checked their combat accounts against the data of the opposite side. Now it is possible to trace the fate of each ship, as well as the results of combat activities. We have a similar work publicly, …
