Description of the attraction

The Ilya Glazunov Gallery is located in an old mansion opposite the Museum of Fine Arts. A. S. Pushkin. The mansion is located at the corner of Volkhonka Street and Vsekhsvyatsky Proezd. This is a manor house that belonged to the widow of General Dokhturov. The house was rebuilt several times.

The Art Gallery of Ilya Glazunov was created on the basis of a decree of the Moscow Government in April 1999. The decree spoke of the need to create a special museum, that it should be a museum of the first category and should be located in an old three-story mansion on Volkhonka.

Ilya Glazunov is a full member of the Russian Academy of Arts, People's Artist of the USSR, professor, rector of the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. The Art Gallery was created in order to preserve and open access to a large number of paintings by Ilya Glazunov. The collection of paintings was donated by the artist to the city on the day of the celebration of the 850th anniversary of Moscow.

The museum was officially opened in August 2004. The opening was timed to the celebration of the city day. The exposition of the museum includes paintings made in different genres: portraits of contemporaries, landscapes, historical canvases, illustrations for literary works and graphic works.

The gallery exhibits about 700 paintings by the author. The iconic hall of the museum displays a large collection of icons and household items of old Russia, as well as a collection of furniture in the neo-Russian style of the 18th - 19th centuries.

In the gallery of Ilya Glazunov, excursions are held introducing the permanent exhibition. Concerts of classical music, various lectures, conferences and many other interesting events are held regularly. A film about the life and work of the artist is shown in the cinema hall of the museum.
