Description of the attraction
A 25-meter stele with the inscription "Glory to the heroes" rises on the embankment of the city of Penza. The Glory Monument was inaugurated on November 6, 1967 in the central part of the city, over the Sura River. The authors of the project were: the famous artist A. A. Oya, sculptor A. A. Fomin and architect L. F. Iofan. The monument is depicted in the form of a stylized sprout making its way to the light, for which it received the popular name "Sprout". The stainless steel vertical obelisk symbolizes the growth and prosperity of the Penza region and Russia as a whole.
Next to the Glory Monument there is a horizontal stele made of Karelian granite with a message for posterity. In 1967, representatives of three generations of Penza walled up a capsule in the northern end of a commemorative stele with an appeal to future residents of the city, the solemn opening of which should take place in 2017.
In 2011, the memorial complex was replenished with lists of people that the Penza region is proud of: holders of the Orders of Glory and the St. George Cross, heroes of Russia and the Soviet Union, who faithfully served the Fatherland.
The Memorial Complex of Glory "Rostock" is located in the park of the same name on the embankment, from where a beautiful view of the Sura, the trans-river part of the city, bridges opens. The memorial serves as an integral part of festive events and a memorable place for all residents of Penza. The observation deck of the memorial complex during the fireworks offers the most colorful and picturesque views in the city.
