Description of the attraction

Vorontsov Palace in Odessa is a palace complex located on Primorsky Boulevard, which is one of the main architectural monuments of the city.

The construction of the palace was carried out in 1826-1828, the last building was completed in 1834. On the site of the palace, there was once an impregnable fortress of Khadzhibey, and during the new development of Odessa, a piece of land on the most extreme northern hill of the boulevard passed into the possession of the Governor-General of the Novorossiysk Territory V. S. Vorontsov.

The house was built in the Empire style, its rich guest rooms with abundant gilding, graceful stucco molding, crystal chandeliers and magnificent parquet flooring, amazed with their design and splendor.

A beautiful palace with a gazebo by the sea, immersed in the shade of a magnificent garden for a long time served as a place for inspiration for creative personalities and a favorite meeting place for intellectuals. During the Crimean War, the palace was badly damaged. The Anglo-French squadron turned the palace into ruins. After the restoration of the palace, a men's gymnasium was organized here, later there was a society for the acclimatization of animals. In 1936, the building was transferred to the needs of the Palace of Pioneers. The headquarters of the Red Army was organized here at one time. During the Great Patriotic War, the palace was again shelled, the Oryol building and the Winter Garden were completely destroyed, the rest of the buildings suffered significant damage.

The exterior of the building was transformed only in 2005, and now a group of enthusiasts are in favor of a complete restoration of the palace. If you want to plunge into the unhurried atmosphere of the southern coast, stroll in the shade of age-old trees along the alleys of the park, or enjoy a magnificent view of the sea from the belvedere - come to the Vorontsov Palace in Odessa, and you will not regret it.
