Description of the attraction
The Bulgar mosque was built in the Novo-Savinovsky district of Kazan in 1991-1993. The construction was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria. The Bulgar Mosque is located at the intersection of Chuikov and Musin streets. The project was carried out by architects V. P. Loginov and E. I. Prokofiev. The site where the mosque is located is fenced with an openwork, metal fence on a brick base. The metal elements of the fence are connected by brick pillars.
This is a two-story, two-hall, domed mosque. The minaret at the mosque is located diagonally - asymmetrically. The building consists of volumes of different sizes, which are cut diagonally into one another.
The mosque has two entrances: male and female, they are located at opposite corners of the central volume. Through the vestibules of the corner entrances, one can get into the male and female lobbies. Utility rooms are located on the ground floor. On the same floor, under the main prayer hall, there is a women's prayer hall. The male prayer hall and the female part of the mosque are connected by a four-flight staircase. The prayer halls of the mosque have narrow floor-to-ceiling windows. On the first floor, the windows are square, and on the second floor, high rectangular. The brick walls of the mosque are unfastened with panels.
A three-tiered minaret with a height of 35 meters can be climbed from the second floor. The minaret is crowned with a crescent.
The characteristic appearance of the mosque is given by a high dome, which is formed by four interlocking edges. The original dome is located above the male prayer hall.
