Description of the attraction
There are several interesting historical monuments on Registan Square, one of which is the Poi Kalyan architectural complex, consisting of a minaret and a Kalyan mosque and a madrasah called Miri Arab. The mosque and the minaret with it appeared during the redevelopment of Bukhara, initiated by Arslan Khan in the XII century. The temple was erected not far from the citadel.
There is historical evidence, according to which we learn that the minaret was very beautiful, but, unfortunately, improperly designed, so it collapsed right on the mosque immediately after the completion of the construction of this complex. Both the mosque and the minaret had to be rebuilt.
The Kalyan minaret, dated 1127, is considered one of the most ancient buildings in Bukhara. Surprisingly, in its entire history, it has never been reconstructed. It rises 46.5 meters above the surrounding buildings.
The Kalyan Mosque was built a little earlier - in 1121, but in the 15th century it was replaced with a new building. In 1514, all the work on its decoration was completed, about which conscientious masters made a commemorative inscription right on the facade.
In 1536, a madrasah building was added to the mosque, which got its name in honor of the person who inspired the khan to create a new educational institution in Bukhara - Miri Arab of Yemen. And Miri Arab, and the khan who built the madrasah, and some other worthy residents of Bukhara were buried right there. Miri Arab Madrasah consists of 111 cells and two large rooms. In one there are the tombs of the already mentioned noble Bukharians, in the other - a mosque and a place for study.
