Description of the attraction

The Austrian city of Eisenstadt is famous for the fact that the great composer Joseph Haydn lived there from 1766 to 1778. Today, within the walls of the house he then occupied, there is a museum dedicated to the musician's work.

The two-storey building was erected in the first half of the 18th century; its facade is decorated with flat stucco moldings that adorn four small windows. The aim of the museum is to show the life of the composer as an ordinary person of his era. The staff tried to decorate the interior as it looked during Haydn's lifetime. Most of the pieces of furniture, if not personally owned by Joseph Haydn, were produced during this historical period. The most valuable exhibits are the grand piano that once belonged to the musician, as well as the organ table from the nearby church - Bergkirche.

Together with the house, Haydn also acquired a garden plot on which he, together with his wife Anna Eloise, grew flowers and spices. According to the testimony of contemporaries, Haydn liked to relax in his garden from hard work, and some of his works were born in the garden gazebo. In 1778, the composer sold the plot, but in 2002 the garden was revived and today is included in the list of expositions of the Haydn Museum.

The most desirable visitors to the museum are, of course, children. The children's groups are met by the great composer himself in a wig and a historical costume, and for more than an hour he talks about his life, with the help of leading questions he helps to compare the past and the present. During the excursion, children sing and play music, and in the end they make a beautiful flower, which they are allowed to take home as a souvenir reminiscent of this interesting excursion into the past.
