Description of the attraction

The Forest Song Museum is located near the Volyn forest village of Skuline, which is located 16 kilometers north-east of Kovel. The famous Ukrainian poetess Lesya Ukrainka very often visited these parts in childhood. It was here in 1884, spending the summer months visiting Uncle Leo, that she heard various Volyn legends about the fabulous inhabitants of the Polissya thickets (Mavka, mermaids and wood goblin), which inspired her to create wonderful literary works. Nearby, 8 kilometers from Skulin, there is a reserve of national importance - the Nechimne tract, which was described by L. Ukrainka in the popular poem "Forest Song".

Back in the period of the "late" USSR, admirers of L. Ukrainka's creativity built a modest house in the Nechimne tract, not far from the lake. But after a while this house burned down, and the paths leading to it were overgrown with bushes. For a long time this so-called "Lesin" corner of Polesie was practically inaccessible to tourists because of the impassable roads and swamps. And only in 2004, on the initiative of the Kovel regional state administration, a hard-surfaced road was built to the Nechimne tract and a small "stage" was built, on which poetic holidays "Forest Song" were held in subsequent years. After that, on the place where the house of Uncle Lev was once located, the foresters built a two-story wooden house, in which in August 2004, at one of the poetry holidays, the Forest Song Museum was opened, the exhibits for which were collected with the help of the memorial museum of L. Ukrainka.

Today, in a small museum house, books, photographs, documents and letters are kept, thanks to which you can learn in more detail about the magical corner of Volyn, as well as about the interesting history of writing the extravaganza drama by L. Ukrainka "Forest Song".

The tourist infrastructure in the village of Skulin is not developed, but the road leading to the reserve is marked with signs.
