Description of the attraction
Sagarmatha National Park, highly rated by UNESCO, covers an area of 1148 sq. Km. It is named after the well-known Mount Everest, also called Chomolungma. However, the inhabitants of Nepal call her Sagarmatha, that is, the Mother of the Mountains. In addition to Everest, in the park you can find two more eight-thousanders (Lhotse and Cho-Oyu) and four mountains, whose height exceeds 6800 meters. Sagarmatha National Park was founded in 1976 to protect the flora and fauna of the Himalayas.
In addition to the stunning nature, numerous tourists are attracted to the Sagarmatha Park and the creations of human hands: temples, monasteries, sanctuaries located both on deserted passes and in villages, of which there are many. Most of the travelers visiting the Sagarmatha Park must drop by the large village of Namche Bazar, where there is an interesting museum of local lore. In the town of Tengboche, touching the sky with spiers, a monastery rises, from the walls of which a magnificent panorama of the mountains opens. A part of the Bigfoot's hand is carefully kept in the monastery, which, as local residents believe, is found in the reserve, along with large animals: wolves, lynxes, Himalayan bears, leopards, pandas.
To see all the local sights with your own eyes, it is worth going on a hiking trip along specially paved routes. They cover both river valleys and higher areas on the elephants of the mountains. For hiking in these places you need to be in good physical condition.
Local rivers are great for rafting. The best time to visit Sagarmatha Park is in the second half of spring and first in autumn.
