Description of the attraction
At all times it was believed that a monument dedicated to a person is installed on the street of the same name. For example, the memorial monument to M. S. Babushkin is located on Babushkin Street in the city of Syktyvkar, respectively, the monument to Lenin is on Lenin Street.
It was difficult to find a settlement throughout the Soviet Union that did not include an avenue or a street named after the "world leader of the proletariat." As mentioned, Syktyvkar also has such a street, which is not surprising at all, since Lenin was listed as a symbol of the entire Soviet era for a long period of time. At one time it was Lenin who stood at the head of the Bolshevik Party. This era took about 70 years in the history of Russia.
It should be noted that Syktyvkar also almost got into the lists of “dedicated to Vladimir Ilyich”. After Lenin's death, which happened in 1924, Ust-Sysolsk (at that time it bore that name) was almost renamed to Vladimirolenin. By a happy coincidence, this event did not happen, although the street and the monument to the leader still took place. Most of the significant events taking place in the life of the working people were related to some state dates. During the jubilee days, there was a tradition of cutting ribbons at newly built facilities, while the leading production leaders were necessarily awarded medals or orders, as well as commemorative monuments and memorial plaques were unveiled.
1967 became especially significant for the whole country, including the Komi Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, because it was in this year that the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution was celebrated. A landmark event in Syktyvkar was the opening of a monument dedicated to Lenin on the central Stefanovskaya Square, which is now renamed Yubileinaya. The author of the sculpture, made of granite, was the people's artists of the USSR V. I. Buyakin and L. E. Kerbel, as well as architects V. K. Datyuk and S. A. Feoktistov.
It is worth noting that a huge amount of effort was expended not only on the construction, but also on the development of the project of the monument. Work on the creation of the monument to Lenin did not begin immediately, because they should have been preceded by many necessary preparatory work. The original model of the monument, made of plywood in full height, was installed on the square for a final assessment. The monument was a granite pylon, which turns into the figure of Lenin against the background of the banner. The sculpture reflects the slogan: "Lenin is our banner!" As soon as the model was exposed, it became clear that the large banner somewhat distracts the eye from the person herself, which interferes with visual perception. It was decided to truncate the banner, which somewhat corrected the situation.
The Lenin monument to this day serves as the organizational nucleus of the central city square, acting as part of the architectural ensemble, which includes a tribune, granite steps and a platform equipped with lighting.
As soon as the USSR collapsed, the country was declared a democratic state, which is why Lenin's role was greatly diminished. All the monuments in his honor began to be demolished, and the streets named after him were renamed. But in Syktyvkar the sculpture of Lenin is still standing today.
