Description of the attraction
Al Fahiji Fort was built in 1799 to protect the city from the sea and is the largest fort in Dubai. At various times, the fort served as the residence of the ruler, a barracks and a prison. Now it houses the National Museum.
The upper exposition of the museum tells about military history and the history of the city's development. Under the oldest tower there is an underground exhibition of the museum. Colorful dioramas, life-size figures, sound and light effects represent the life of Dubai in the pre-oil era. The galleries recreate the former appearance of the Bay, traditional Arab houses, mosques, a bazaar, date groves, episodes from the life of the inhabitants of the desert and the sea coast. Among the most impressive exhibits are paintings of the underwater world with figures of pearl divers. Old scales and sieves used by pearl traders are also exhibited here.
The museum exhibits artisan products, including wonderful items from copper, alabaster and clay found during excavations in Al-Gusais, whose age is from 3 to 4 thousand years.
