Description of the attraction

The Assumption Church is located in Pamporovo, a mountain resort in southern Bulgaria. It was built with funds raised from a 1992 television campaign. As a result, more than 1,500 Bulgarians wanted to donate money for the construction of a new church. The names of the most generous donors are listed on special plaques in the church building.

The temple was erected high in the mountains relatively recently, and its uniqueness lies in the fact that all the features of high-mountain construction were taken into account in its design.

The architectural solution of the temple combines ancient traditions and modern trends. So, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin is a cruciform central-domed type temple. On three sides there are apses covered with arched roofs. They are surrounded by large semicircular windows extending almost from the floor to the very roof. The central entrance to the building is designed as a porch with a roof supported by stone columns. A domed tower rises above the porch.

Inside, the vault and walls of the building are decorated with frescoes (for example, the image of the Virgin surrounded by angels under the dome of the temple). The altar is made of wood and adorned with elaborate carvings. There are also gilded and wooden décor elements here.

Many icons in the church were donated by believing Christians.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin is open and accessible to all guests of Pamporovo.
