Description of the attraction
The most famous and popular street in Aalborg is the pedestrian street Jomfrue Ane Gade, which translates as "Maiden Anna Street". Local historians were interested in who this street, so popular today, was named after. But unfortunately, in the archives with a thousand-year history of the city of Aalborg, we could not find interesting references to a virgin named Anna.
Previously, it was one of the usual streets of the city, where merchants and traders lived. Now on Jomfrue Ana Gad there are only nightclubs, restaurants, pubs, cafes, the street traffic is more than a thousand people a day. In May 1967, the first nightclub Gaslight was opened - one of the oldest nightclubs in Denmark. In 1970, 10 more bars, a nightclub and a restaurant on the street were opened on Jomfrue Ane Gade, and in 1992 the number of establishments increased to 26 and the Theater of the Virgin Anna was opened.
In the morning and lunchtime, cafes and restaurants are overcrowded with tourists and locals who enjoy local cuisine, drink coffee and beer. From evening to morning, the street is filled with crowds of young people who have fun in nightclubs, dine in restaurants, and relax from the hustle and bustle of the day in pubs.
To attract visitors, the owners of the establishments on Jomfrue Ane Gade organize themed parties, fashion shows, and most of the bars and pubs have karaoke and live music. Most of the entertainment venues are open all night until 5 am.
