Description of the attraction

The campus of the Autonomous State University of Mexico (UNAM), the largest university in the Americas by student population, is located in the south of the Mexican capital.

Built in the style of modernism of the last century, it really resembles a separate city and is considered a separate area of the city. It even has its own buses that run through the town. Its construction was completed in 1954. The famous architects Domingo Garcia Ramos, Enrique del Moral, Mario Pani and others participated in the construction.

The authors of the panels, which are on almost every wall, are the famous communists David Siqueiros and Diego Rivera. The style in which the buildings are decorated is more reminiscent of the buildings of the CIS countries than the architecture of capitalist Mexico.

More than 100 thousand people work and study on the University campus, by the way, there are also Russian students. It is important to know that the entrance to the territory of the town is prohibited without the approval of the local administration, but it is easy to get here along with the excursion.

On the territory of the town there are 40 different institutes and departments of the Olympic Stadium, a cultural center, several museums, an observatory, a rectorate tower, even an ecological reserve and, of course, a huge library. Near each building there are small seating areas, however, they are also made in a very austere style.

The main university building was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.
