Description of the attraction
The Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located on the picturesque bank of the village of Fedorovka, which is part of the city of Togliatti as part of the Komsomolsk region. The building of the temple was built in 1846 by the owner of the village, the wealthy landowner N. F. Bakhmetev in the hope of a speedy recovery from his seriously ill wife, Varvara. The throne in the church was consecrated in honor of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara. There is also information about the first church minister who received a stone church on the banks of the Volga - Alexander Kornilievich Yastrebov. In 1871, the future vicar of the Saratov diocese, Peter Fleurinsky, was baptized in the Varvara Church.
During the times of revolutions and changes, like all Orthodox churches, the church was plundered and closed. In the thirties, the bells were removed from the temple and a club was placed in the building, and a little later a store was opened.
At the end of the eighties, the temple was returned to the Orthodox diocese and on May 19, 1989, the completely restored church, consecrated in honor of the Annunciation of the Virgin, was opened to parishioners. People's Artist of the USSR, laureate of State Prizes, A. V. Vasnetsov was involved in the restoration of the temple. It is noteworthy that one of the icons, saved by believers in the 1930s, was returned to its original place in the revived church. In the early 90s, next to the Annunciation Church, the construction of a refectory church in honor of the Great Martyr Barbara, outbuildings and ten monastic cells, which later became part of the temple complex, or, as they call it, the Annunciation Skete, began.
The Orthodox landmark of the village of Fedorovka is clearly visible from ships sailing along the river, and the building of the temple with five golden domes is recognized as an architectural monument of the city of Togliatti.
