Stradioti Island (St. Mark)

Description of the attraction

St. Mark's Island was previously named about. Stradioti, it is the largest and most beautiful among other islands in the Bay of Kotor.

The island is very green with numerous olive groves, a lot of subtropical vegetation, cypresses and flowers. This pristine beauty has become a determining factor in the modern fate of the island - for the last decades, an exclusive vacation in the bosom of nature has been organized here.

Initially, the island bore the name of St. Gabriel in honor of the church that was erected on its territory. But already in the era of Venetian rule, it was renamed the island of Stradioti (from the Greek for "soldier"), since the camp of the Venetian army units, mostly of Greek origin, was located here. The last time the name was changed in 1962, when a tourist-type settlement named after St. Mark was built on the island.

The rights to this tourist village were held by the French network, which organizes an exclusive and high-class vacation in different parts of the world. About 500 Tahitian-style huts were built here; there were no such comfortable conditions as water and electricity on the island. But just such a vacation, in the quiet of untouched nature on a secluded island, enjoyed immense popularity. However, the policy made its own adjustments: Yugoslavia collapsed, the war broke out, and the village was abandoned.

For some time the island was forgotten until it was bought by the international corporation MetropolGroup. Now an unrivaled 6-star spa resort of the highest class is about to be built in this exotic location. The company wants to revive the past glory of St. Mark's Island so that tourists can enjoy a luxurious vacation without compromising the unique nature. The island will have a berth for private yachts, and several first-class beaches will be equipped on the coast.

The plans are to build several detached villas and hotels with swimming pools, and to place a shopping area in the center of the island, in the best trends of the Venetian architectural style, with modern restaurants and boutiques. The building is not planned to be made too dense, the main thing is that the local unique trees are preserved, and the privacy of each detached villa is ensured. The buildings will be connected by walking paths, vacationers will get to the island on a luxury yacht, and the Tivat airport will be equipped with a special lounge for the guests of the resort.
