Description of the attraction

State Flag Square - the square in the city of Baku, where the state flag of Azerbaijan is located. This iconic place is located not far from the main base of the country's naval forces.

The order on the creation of this unique square was signed on November 17, 2007 by the Azerbaijani President I. Aliyev. National Flag Day is celebrated in the country on November 9 every year. The foundation of the square was laid in December 2007 with the participation of the President himself. Due to the good location of the square, which was foreseen in advance, the State Flag can be seen from different points of the city of Baku. The grand opening of the square took place on September 1, 2010.

The total area of the area is 60 hectares. The height of the flagpole installed on the square is 162 m. As for the total weight of the installation, it is 220 tons. The text of the National Anthem, the Coat of Arms of the Republic and the map of the country installed on this square were made of gilded bronze. Also here you can visit the most interesting Museum of the State Flag. The opening of the museum took place on November 9, 2010 and was timed to coincide with the National Flag Day. Located under the pedestal of the flagpole, the museum building is made in the shape of an eight-pointed star. The museum displays the restored flags of states and khanates that existed on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan in different periods. In addition, the museum exhibits an element of the headboard of flags dating from the 17th-18th centuries, coats of arms, postage stamps, orders, medals and samples of banknotes. Documents and photographs, which reflect the foundation, formation and development of the Azerbaijani state and much more, deserve special attention in the museum.
