Description of the attraction
Brest City Park of Culture and Recreation named after May 1 is a favorite recreation place for city residents of any age and gender. The park recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. It was built by Russian soldiers of the Libavian garrison of Brest-Litovsk as a gift to the townspeople. Two years before the significant date, the park named after May 1 was closed for reconstruction and opened on the day of its 100th anniversary.
The original park occupied only 4 hectares. Now it is the largest city park in Brest. Its area is over 20 hectares. The park has a good dendrological collection, which includes both traditional species of trees and shrubs for the Brest region, and rare species brought and planted in the park from other localities. The trees in the park are tastefully arranged and perfectly groomed, which makes the park very picturesque at any time of the year.
There are several reservoirs in the park. After the reconstruction, their shores were refined with the use of modern technologies and materials that allow maintaining a neat appearance and cleanliness, without disturbing the natural appearance of the coast. Very beautiful openwork metal fencing and bridges thrown over the canals appeared around the reservoirs.
The park has all the conditions for a calm and active rest. The paths are paved with paving slabs with the effect of natural stone, there are beautiful comfortable benches near the paths, in the depths of the park there are gazebos for contemplative relaxation. The park also hosts many events: concerts, festivals, youth events, holidays.
Not only people fell in love with the park, but also animals and birds, for which all conditions have been created here. Squirrels have returned to the park, there are many waterfowl in the pond, rare forest guests fly to the feeding troughs, who in the park are not at all afraid of people and allow not only taking pictures of themselves, but also taking food from their hands.
