Description of the attraction
Vimanmek Palace is the largest building in the world, built of pink yew tree without a single nail. All structures were fastened with wooden dowels. The building was previously located on Sichang Island, but in 1901, by royal order, it was moved to its current location in Bangkok - Dusit Park.
King Rama V lived in the palace with his large family. Later he moved to the Royal Palace, and his wives stayed here. In 1935, the palace was empty and gradually fell into decay, until restoration began in 1982. Today, it houses a museum of unique exhibits that belonged to the royal family.
The palace has more than 80 rooms - audience halls, a concert hall, living quarters. It houses the first electric light bulb in Thailand, a huge cast-iron bathtub with a water-heating boiler, porcelain products, furniture, and hunting trophies.
Next to Vinmanek Palace is the Aphisekdusit Throne Room, which houses the Museum of Traditional Crafts, the Royal Carriage Museum, the Museum of Portraits of the Royal Chakri Dynasty, the Museum of Ancient Clothing and Textiles and the Museum of Photography.
