Description of the attraction

In the 30s of the last century, the Moscow Oblast Executive Committee issued a decree that the Vvedensky temple in Barashi should be closed and then demolished in order to prepare a site for the construction of a residential building. However, the temple, albeit in a dilapidated state, has survived to this day. In the 70s and 80s, it was even restored, and in the 90s it was returned to the Orthodox Church. In Soviet times, the building of the church in Barashi was a hostel, an electromechanical plant, and also one of the workshops of the All-Union Restoration Plant was located in it. Some of the icons from the Vvedenskaya Church after its closure were transferred to the Tretyakov Gallery. Currently, the church has a Sunday school and workshops, including gold embroidery and bone carving.

The Church of the Presentation of the Most Holy Theotokos in the Temple in Barashi is located in the Basmanny district of Moscow, in Barashevsky lane. The unusual name of the lane is associated with the work of the royal servants, who were in charge of soft equipment - tents. The servants were called lambs and accompanied the kings on campaigns. The place of the compact settlement of rams began to be called Barashevskaya Sloboda, in which their churches were built.

One of the first in the settlement in the second half of the 15th century was the church of Ilya-under-the-pine, which in the first half of the 17th century was already called Vvedenskaya. The first stone temple was built in 1647, and the current building appeared about forty years later - in 1688. It is known that one hundred thousand bricks were used for the construction of this building. One of the chapels of the church bears the name of the Prophet Elijah, the other - Longinus the Centurion, and the main altar was consecrated in honor of the Feast of the Entry into the Temple of the Mother of God, which is celebrated on December 4. The construction of the church was completed in 1701.

The temple was built in the Moscow Baroque style, richly decorated with small details, and its roof was lined with white stones and colored tile tiles. Perhaps such a roof at the church appeared during the reign of Peter the Great, who banned the use of iron for roofs. The tiled-stone roof has not survived, since in 1770 it was replaced by an iron one.

The reconstruction of the temple in the pre-Soviet period was carried out twice: after the fire in 1737 and in 1815.
