Description of the attraction

Karl Fedorovich Fuchs - physician, historian, encyclopedist, naturalist, rector of the Kazan Imperial University. He was the first researcher of the culture and life of the Kazan Tatars. His house is located in the historical center of Kazan, at the corner of Kamala and Moskovskaya streets. Restoration work has begun in this famous mansion (by architect A. Peske).

In a fairly simple two-story house with a mezzanine in September 1833, Alexander Pushkin visited during his trip along the Volga and the Urals. The poet's goal was to collect materials for work on the "History of Pugachev". Fuchs introduced Pushkin to the historical places of Kazan. He showed the poet the prison where the arrested E. Pugachev was imprisoned. Fuchs also introduced the poet to people who remembered the peasant revolt. After leaving Kazan, Pushkin and Fuchs corresponded.

Rector of Kazan University N. Lobachevsky visited Fuchs' house. Famous poets E. Baratynsky and G. Yazykov were frequent guests.

Fuchs House is a monument of history and architecture of republican significance. Since 1996, there is a memorial plaque on the facade of the house with an inscription indicating that A. S. Pushkin was a guest in the house.

In October 2011, the building was auctioned off. The house was in an extremely dilapidated state. The restored building should have all the architectural features of the first half of the 19th century. The Karl Fuchs Museum is planned to open on the second floor. On the ground floor, the new owners are planning to open a cafe.
