The Museum of History and Local Lore, located in the center of the resort of Gelendzhik, will tell its visitors about the fascinating history of this seaside town and the entire Black Sea coast.
Throughout its history, the Museum of History and Local Lore has experienced many different dramatic and joyful events. It is enough that the museum was “born” four times (1909, 1920, 1949, 2004) and was closed twice.
On the initiative of M. M. Reinke, in December 1901, the Society for the Promotion of the Improvement of the Resort City of Gelendzhik was founded. In July 1909, the dacha owners of Solntsedar held a grand opening of the Natural History Museum, located on the territory of the estate of M. M. Reinke. It was from this date that the history of the Gelendzhik Museum began. The museum was created on the basis of the archaeological collections of Professor VB Sakhanev, housed in M. Reinke's lodge. In 1912, the institution was awarded a diploma and a gold medal for the archaeological collections on display, and a year later it was closed.
In 1920, with the assistance of M. M. The Reinke Museum resumed its work, then it bore the name "Museum of History and Nature". During the Great Patriotic War, the museum was destroyed. In May 1949, the museum was housed in a former school building (Lenin Street, 23). There he stayed until the summer of 2006. After that he was transported to the Gelendzhik embankment in the former building of the Torikos theater. In 2009, the museum was restored. He acquired the modern design of the exhibits and the wonderful lighting of all the halls.
Today, the local history museum contains more than 70 thousand items, they are located in five halls: "Nature", "Archeology", "Old Gelendzhik", "Adygean antiquities", "In the name of victory". The Museum of History and Local Lore in Gelendzhik is very popular with local residents and guests of the city.
