Description of the attraction

The Palacio de Catalan Music is a famous concert hall in Barcelona, another outstanding work of the modernist architect Lewis Domenech y Montarer. This beautiful building was built between 1905 and 1908 and was intended for the choral society, founded in 1891 and of great cultural influence in Barcelona. The Palais des Music is located in the Ribera district, with its elegant, magnificent and bright view, it stands out in contrast to other seemingly ordinary gray buildings. Today the palace is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On the one hand, the building of the Palace looks typical for the era of modernism, and on the other hand, functional and rational methods and solutions prevail in it. The facade of the building impresses with its decor, original motives and forms, amazing combinations of materials and style elements. The rich decoration of the facade uses red brick, iron, mosaics, glazed tiles, stained glass. Sculptures and bas-reliefs, as well as busts of composers that adorn the façade, are striking in their beauty. Columns on the level of the second floor look amazingly beautiful, each of which is covered with its own multi-colored glazed tiles. A lot of glass is used in the facade.

But the main asset of the Palace is its concert hall, which is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful not only in Europe, but throughout the world. This is the only hall in Europe, which until late at night is illuminated only by natural light due to the fact that its walls are almost entirely composed of unusually beautiful arched stained-glass windows, and the roof of the room is a huge glass dome. It should also be noted the excellent acoustic properties of this hall, which were appreciated by famous composers, conductors and musicians. The interior of the hall is decorated with fine sculptures and intricate bas-reliefs. All this stunning splendor gives every right to call the Palace of Catalan Music a true masterpiece of modernism.
