Description of the attraction
One of the must-see sights of Basel, which has a well-deserved reputation as an exhibition city, is the only Museum of Architecture in Switzerland, in changing exhibitions of which the best examples of international and Swiss building art are presented. The museum pays great attention to the present and future problems of architecture and related disciplines, publishes articles on exposition topics, organizes lectures accompanied by audio and video materials that are interesting not only to professionals, but also to a wide range of people. In addition, the museum organizes guided tours in several languages, during which you can learn about the development paths and achievements of world architecture in the 20th and 21st centuries. The expositions are organized both by the Museum independently and jointly with other institutions.
The museum was founded in 1984 and is housed in a building that itself is a striking example of 19th century architecture and was designed by the architect Johan Jakob Stehlin.
There is also a bookstore on 400 square meters of exhibition space, which offers a wide range of books on architecture and design. There are several other exhibition halls in the museum building, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Sculpture and Painting Hall.
