Description of the attraction
National Museum of Anthropology - Mexico State Museum in Chapultepec Park in Mexico City. The museum has a unique collection of artifacts, archaeological exhibits that have been found on Mexican soil.
The museum was founded in 1825. The building where it is located today was built in 1963 by the famous Mexican architect Pedro Ramirez Vazquez. The 23 exhibition halls are arranged in such a way that they encircle the courtyard with a pond and the so-called "umbrella" - a concrete column surrounded by an artificial waterfall. There are gardens around the museum, where temporary exhibitions are held. They usually talk about the art and culture of other countries such as Persia, Egypt, Greece and, of course, Spain.
The total area of the museum is about 8 hectares. Its territory houses the world's richest collection of cultural art of the Maya, Aztecs, Olmecs, Toltecs, Mixtecs and other peoples of ancient Mexico. There is also a large ethnographic exposition telling about the modern peoples of the country.
The museum houses many world famous exhibits. At the entrance, tourists are greeted by the seven-meter head of Tlaloc, the rain god, discovered in Mexico City in 1940. Here is kept the Stone of the Sun, also called the calendar of the Aztecs, the huge stone heads of the Olmec people and the golden treasures of the Maya. There are even more terrible exhibits. In the hall of the Aztecs rests the figure of a jaguar with a sacrificial bowl, where the hearts of the sacrificed were laid. Or armor made from stripped and tanned human skin.
