Description of the attraction
Khmelevsky Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery, or the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Lord, was founded in 1725.
According to the legend, one local landowner bought a copy of the miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Czestochowa, written by the hand of the Apostle Luke, for huge money. A chapel was specially built for the list of the icon, in which the shrine was located. Once a fire broke out in the estate of the landowner. All buildings burned down, including the chapel. But when they began to dismantle the conflagration, the icon was found unharmed. It was then that the landowner decided to build a church especially for the icon. Over time, this church grew into a monastery.
After, in our time, the icon was stolen twice, and it was miraculously found, the icon began to stream myrrh in 1995. This miracle caused an unprecedented influx of pilgrims who prayed day and night in front of the miraculous image.
The monastery for Orthodox Christians was founded on December 30, 1999. Now the monastery is one of the most beautiful and pacifying spectacles that a person who is tired of the bustle of the city can imagine. It is located far from settlements (the nearest village of Khmelevo is half a kilometer). However, the monks not only pray, but also help numerous pilgrims, many of whom come for healing and need care and assistance.
