Description of the attraction
The sculptors N. A. Kolomiets, G. Ya. Khusid and architects A. F. Ignaschenko, I. A.
During the Great Patriotic War, soldiers of the Red Army, partisan formations, and underground organizations took part in fierce battles with the invaders on the territory of the Zhytomyr region. Thousands of people gave their lives for the liberation of Zhitomir. On Victory Day in 1979, a Monument in memory of them was opened at one of the highest points in the city. It is a majestic cylindrical column 37 m high, crowned with a sculptural composition - a Soviet warrior, a partisan, with them a patriotic woman and a banner waving over them.
The monument was made of Zhytomyr labradorite, and bronze was chosen for the sculptural composition. The granite pedestal is replete with the names of units of the Soviet Army, formations and detachments of partisans, underground cells, the names of their military leaders, commanders, and leaders carved on it. The traditional Eternal Flame is burning next to the monument.
Zhytomyr newlyweds have a wonderful tradition - after visiting the registry office, they lay flowers at the foot of the Monument. From here there are wonderful views of Zhitomir, the surrounding forests, the dam that forms the Zhitomir reservoir.
