Description of the attraction

The city of Santiago de Cuba has long been the capital of Cuba, its advantageous location near the most convenient bay in the Caribbean Sea gave it advantages for the commercial development of the city. In the seventeenth century, it was decided to fortify the city's borders and protect it from pirate attacks. This is how the famous fortress Castillo del Moro was built, which was subsequently included in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List. The construction of the fortress took almost 63 years, and in the end it turned out to be so impregnable that the famous corsair Henry Morgan remarked: "One soldier and one dog is enough to defend this fortress." Most likely, such a strong structure of Castillo del Moro was the reason why the fortress has been perfectly preserved to our times. And five centuries later, the fortress radiates unapproachable power: bridges, towers, walls, embrasures with cannons. This place is famous primarily for the fact that the only museum in the whole world of the History of Piracy is located in the interior. From the very first minutes of the excursion, you find yourself in the kingdom of corsairs. Pirate clothes, weapons, treasures of coastal waters, parts of warships, paintings with images of sea wolves, colorful battles … Both adults and children love the Museum of the History of Piracy.
