Description of the attraction
The Cathedral of the Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God is only a few years old, it belongs to the youngest Orthodox churches in the city, but its unusual architectural design and beauty invariably attract attention. The temple was erected at the end of the last century and organically blended into the architectural ensemble of the central square of Mukachevo, with dignity joining the magnificent sacred structures surrounding it.
The architecture of the cathedral is distinguished by its originality, it resembles the ancient churches of Ancient Russia, and, at the same time, with the severity and simplicity of forms, it resembles small modern churches in Europe. Its three pear-shaped domes rise above a simple rectangular structure (the central dome is slightly higher than the side ones), and each of them is crowned with an Orthodox cross. In the design of the facade of the church, three large oval arches stand out, with a depiction on the central of them of a plot about the appearance of the Mother of God. Not far from the cathedral there is a low belfry with a tent-shaped dome, also crowned with a cross.
The cathedral houses the department of the Mukachevo diocese established in 940. Inside the temple, you can also see an interesting poster depicting the tree of the Christian church and illustrating its formation. There are murals on the ceiling and walls of the church, and the throne of the Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God is placed in the altar.
The architectural ensemble of the temple, the belfry and the territory adjacent to them makes a light, pleasant impression and deserves attention because of its beauty and originality.
