Description of the attraction
The Church of the Ascension of the Lord is one of the oldest in the territory of the Komi Republic. The temple has a unique history of formation and development, because it was built on the money of the parishioners and their efforts, but during the years of atheism it was brutally desecrated and completely destroyed.
The foundation of the Church of the Ascension of the Lord took place in 1827 on the territory of the left bank of the Sysola River, which is 60 km from the city of Syktyvkar.
In 1851, the temple was slightly modified. The temple became an excellent example of provincial late classicism. A special decoration of the temple was the side facades of the cube volume of the temple, represented by a rather complex composition in the form of a middle semicircular window equipped with rustication, croutons, crackers and a pediment. The division of the drum is done with multiple windows and double pilasters. The dome is made flat, in the lower part of which there is a parapet with semicircular niches.
Today, the church itself, a one-story refectory room and an altar remain from the Church of the Ascension of the Lord. The part of the temple can be described as double-lighted, equipped with a cubic rotunda.
During the formation and reign of Soviet power, due to the so-called general madness, they tried to close the Church of the Ascension of the Lord. In response to this statement, the entire rural population with pitchforks and other handy and household tools stood up for the defense of the only shrine in the district. Then the church was defended, but still the temple existed for a very short time.
After an unsuccessful attempt to close the church, the authorities tried to get rid of the most ardent defenders: some were exiled far beyond their native places, and some were killed. In the village, godless literature began to spread rapidly. Soon in 1936, the long-awaited event for the authorities happened - the temple was closed and turned into a warehouse for grain, which existed until 1956, because it was in this year, thanks to the unprecedented stubbornness of believers, the temple was restored, and soon after that the divine services were resumed in German
The Church of the Ascension of the Lord has three chapels: one is consecrated in the name of Elijah the Prophet, the second is dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra, and the third is dedicated to the feast of the Ascension of Christ.
In difficult times for the temple, parishioners still managed to save the largest number of icons of ancient writing - after the resumption of the work of the temple, they again took their places and even today perform miracles. There are several unique cases when the holy icon of Luke Voino-Yasenetsky, which contained particles of his relics, was carried to terminally ill people in intensive care, after which they received complete healing, praying in front of the image. It is known that the icon of the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Friday helps to find peace in family affairs.
Among the rare icons in the church, it is worth noting icons: the Savior Not Made by Hands (17th century), John the Baptist in the wilderness (17th century), St. century), as well as the Prayer for the Chalice (17th century). Among the myrrh-streaming icons, it is worth mentioning the Icon of the Sign, depicting the Most Holy Theotokos and the venerable holy apostles Paul and Peter.
Particles of the relics of some saints are especially respected: St. Innocent of Moscow, Holy Great Martyr Princess Elizabeth (a particle of her tomb), St. Spyridon of Trimifuntsky (particles of a robe) and others. As for the temple shrines, they include: a belt, which was consecrated on the belt of the Most Holy Theotokos, a particle of the holy Mamre Oak.
Today this temple bears the title of not only an architectural, but also a cultural monument of the Komi Republic. Throughout the history of the temple, it has been a safe place for local parishioners seeking comfort and spiritual support.
