Description of the attraction
Five-trunk chestnut grows in Simferopol on Frunze Street, 30, in the courtyard of a five-story building. This tree, unique of its kind, was discovered in 1972 and is protected by law today. The chestnut tree has five trunks that have grown from different fruits. Over time, the trees have grown together near the ground. The trunk girth here is 5, 15 meters. At a height of two meters, the trees diverge, and the girth of the trunks of each of them is 1.85 m, 2.00 m, 2.25 m, 2.30 m and 2.25 m, respectively.
Chestnut has seen a lot during its more than two hundred years of history. He was planted in 1829 by the famous Russian doctor, scientist and public figure - Fyodor Karlovich Milgauzen. His house, the windows of which overlook the courtyard where the chestnut tree now grows, was visited by many eminent people of that time. A. S. Pushkin and the artist Aivazovsky, the poets K. N. Batyushkov and V. A. Zhukovsky, the writer V. G. Belinsky and many others.
F. K. Milhausen planned to plant seven chestnut fruits in one hole, which would symbolize the members of his family. Chestnut was conceived as a memorial tree for the family. But two of the seven fruits never grew, but the other five began and today have merged into a single powerful tree, which blooms abundantly and bears fruit every year.
Today it is generally accepted that this is the only five-trunk tree, not only in Ukraine, but also in the world, whose age is more than two hundred years.
