Description of the attraction

The exact date of the construction of the pharmacy building is unknown. It is assumed that it was built after 1815 and no later than the forties of the 19th century. This is indicated by the elements of the Art Nouveau style, which was emerging at that time.

The house stood on the left side at the end of Prolomnaya (now Bauman Street), at the corner with Universitetskaya Street. Behind the house began Rybnoryadskaya square, filled with storage sheds and shops. The house belonged to N. Antropova. Near her house there was a fish shop of the merchant F. Dokuchaev. On the site of this shop, he later, in 1851, built a house. The house was two-storied and with an openwork balcony, like on a neighbor's house.

In the house of Antropova, as is known from the documents, there was a pharmacy for a long time. It was the first pharmacy on Prolomnaya. Later it was named "Staroprolomnaya". It is assumed that the pharmacy has been in the house since the day it was founded.

Later, the building was sold to the Kazan house owner I. Brening. Brening did not close the pharmacy, but rented out the empty premises for a sausage and tea shop. Brening himself settled in an apartment building on Universitetskaya.

It is believed that in the late eighties the governor of Kazan (actual state councilor, chamberlain of the Court of His Imperial Majesty, Count Poltoratsky) visited the pharmacy on Prolomnaya. In 1888, a telephone appeared in the pharmacy. Having received a message from the governor's secretary, Mr. Leppig, the master of pharmacology, came out to meet him. One of the best drug compilers of that time, a pharmacist Shatsky, worked in the pharmacy. A pharmacy on Baumana still exists, one of the best in the city.

Descendants of the famous pharmacist Brening still live in Kazan. Tatiana Arnoldovna Brening is well known, who did a lot to preserve the historical documents of the Brenings family and to found a small museum. It is planned to open a house-museum of Brenings soon.
