Description of the attraction

Ehrwald is a small Austrian resort town located in the federal state of Tyrol. It is part of the Reute County. The city is located at an altitude of 2950 meters above sea level. Not far from the German side is the famous Bavarian winter resort of Garmisch-Partenkirche.

Ehrwald is first mentioned in documents from 1274. The village was not like the rest of the district. The not very convenient location away from the main routes was the reason for the difficult economic situation of Ehrwald. The city survived thanks to the production of timber, which became the main source of income for local residents. However, already at the beginning of the 20th century, Ehrwald was discovered by tourists and turned into a famous ski resort in the Zugspitze region.

In 1926, the cable car was opened, after the appearance of which the tourist flow increased sharply. Hotels and restaurants began to open in the city, as well as all the accompanying infrastructure for tourists. In summer, tourists visit the Ehrwald Nature Reserve, as well as the picturesque lake nearby.
