Description of the attraction

The main church in Kotka is an Evangelical Lutheran cathedral, built in 1898 from red brick in the neo-Gothic style according to the project of Joseph Stenbeck. Inside there are 1560 seats. The spacious building, 54 m high, with magnificent stained-glass windows, beautiful ornaments on the columns and an amazing carved wooden interior serves as a concert hall for listening to organ music.

The 44-register church organ, made by Marty Portanen in the Baroque style, after the organ of Freiberg Cathedral in Germany, was installed in 1998. to the centenary of the church. The altarpiece “Adoration of the Magi” by Pekka Halonen depicts the baby Jesus.

The main church of Kotka belongs to the Mikkeli Diocese. Visitors are offered guided tours.
