Description of the attraction
Gagarina's palace-estate is located on Cape Plaka, in a shady park area. It has a gabled roof, narrow windows and many towers, and is similar in architectural style to a castle of knights. This palace was built at the beginning of the 20th century at the direction of Princess Anastasia Gagarina. The coat of arms of the Gagarin family with the Latin inscription: "In ancient times - strength" hangs above the door of the main entrance.
The princess lived in solitude, completely immersed in her troubles. After the death of her husband, Princess Gagarina never married again. In 1902, when the princess turned 70, she invited the famous architect Krasnov to build a new palace and a house church for Alexander Nevsky.
By building this castle, the princess fulfilled a dream shared with her late husband. But in 1907, immediately after the completion of construction, the princess died without ever living in the new palace. She was buried in the courtyard of the Alexander Nevsky Church.
After the death of Princess Gagarina, the palace was inherited by her niece, Princess Elena Tarkhan-Mouravi. After the revolution, the premises of the palace became a rest house, and the princess spent the rest of her life in her former palace. At the opening of the Rest House, Princess Elena presented him with a large library. In 1922, Elena Tarkhan-Mouravi died and was buried in the courtyard of the church next to Princess Gagarina. And the large library disappeared during the Nazi occupation.
In addition to the palace, Princess Gagarina built a hospital in memory of her husband, Alexander Ivanovich Gagarin. Here, the princess, at her own expense, maintained a medical staff and a good doctor, who provided free medical care to residents of nearby settlements.
From the castle, along the wonderful flower alleys, you can get to the Alexander Nevsky Church, and after walking a little further you can reach Cape Plaka. The remains of the Borozdins' crypt have been preserved on this cape. A wonderful view opens up from the flat top of the cape. Climbing this peak will not be difficult. From the top you can see the sea, Ayu-dag and the bay. This sight is simply breathtaking.
If you walk in the direction of Ayu-Dag through a wonderful park belonging to the Utyos sanatorium, which merges with the park area of the Karasan sanatorium, you can go to the amazing Rayevsky palace.
